The Goldfinch (15)

In 2014 the American author Donna Tartt won the Pulitzer Prize for her book The Goldfinch which became a world bestseller.  A 13-year-old boy, Theodore, while visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, survives a terrorist attack.  In the confusion he steals a small painting from the Dutch Golden Age, The Goldfinch.  The characterisation and plot are so intricate that it is almost impossible to render them justice in a few hours.  There’s a great cameo performance by Nicole Kidman as the perfect American mother.
