Veteran piano tuner Harry Horowitz (Dustin Hoffman) is losing his hearing, while his shy apprentice Niki (Leo Woodall) is so sensitive to sound he has to wear earplugs all the time. Together, they’re the best tuners in town. But when Niki’s skills are called on in unusual circumstances, he is exposed to a criminal but lucrative potential side trade – shortly before he meets and begins to fall for music composition student Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu). Oscar-winning Daniel Roher’s narrative debut moves cleverly between low-key thriller and winsome romcom. With a warm, sly script, jazzy original music, and charismatic performances from Hoffman, Woodall and Liu, Tuner is a playful and satisfying watch.
