Queen and Slim (15)
We’d planned to screen this in June 2020, but something intervened! Returning from an uninspiring first date, Queen and Slim are pulled over by a hot-headed police officer. The situation escalates, leaving Queen with a bullet wound and the officer dead, and no option but to take to the road. As they drive, these two unlikely fugitives forge a deepening bond. At its heart a love story, beautifully shot, this is a stylish and powerful film with a dream like quality. As they move south, their legend grows with an Underground Railroad-type support network emerging. “It’s an intoxicatingly lawless lovers-on-the-run romance played out against the politically charged backdrop of racially divided modern America” The Guardian
