Peak Vision Arts – Exhibition Starts

Foxlowe Gallery is delighted to display this new collection from four local artists: Jan Hoyle, Ingrid Karlsson, Louise Neilson and Julia Brownsword.  All welcome.

Jan Hoyle uses the traditional method of wet felting as an expressive art form. The inspiration for her work is derived from the rural landscape and her connection to it. Her felt landscapes convey the joy she feels when she is outside and she uses rich colours and texture to express this. Using merino wool, fibres, fabric and stitch she replaces the brush to create vibrant felted paintings where her love of colour shines through in abundance.

Ingrid Katarina Karlsson is a mixed media artist widely known for her narrative style, inspired by the landscapes of the Peak District as well as her Swedish roots. Her work approach creates colourful textures developed through mono-printing, collage and machine stitch. A favourite medium is crystalline watercolour which enhances her work with a luminous quality, whilst allowing storytelling though the insertion of words.

Louise Neilson started her love affair with clay when she signed up to a night school class in 2000 and hasn’t looked back since! Since moving to the High Peak in 2015 Louise has been inspired by its beauty ever since. She loves the way the landscape changes through the seasons, the colours, the textures, and the light. She is also interested in how the land is used and how it develops a sense of community.

A mixed media artist, Julia Brownsword takes her inspiration from a passion ignited by the landscape in which she runs and cycles. The tranquillity of the countryside opens her eyes to the beauty, joy and freedom of nature. The ephemeral changes in light, subtle shadows and blocks of colour captivate her and she feels an unspoken energy. This feeling of well- being drives her creativity to draw, paint and stitch. Her mixed media imagery originates in the emotional links as she journeys through the landscape.
