One Life (12A)
Anthony Hopkins leads an all-star cast as British humanitarian Nicholas Winton – who helped save 669 predominantly Jewish children from a horrific fate on the eve of World War II by setting up an ambitious Kindertransport project. Decades later, Winton (Hopkins) is still haunted by the fate of those he couldn’t save. It’s not until a live TV show surprises him with the surviving children, now adults, that he finally makes peace with the guilt and grief of his past. Nuanced in its recollection of events, James Hawes’ sweeping debut reminds us of the power of individual acts in defence of human rights.
