Actor James McAvoy’s directorial debut is an irresistible feel-good underdog tale, based on the outrageous real life tale of two aspiring Scottish MCs dreaming of hip-hop stardom. However no one in the early 2000s UK rap scene takes them – two white guys with thick Dundee accents – seriously. Fed up of being laughed out of auditions, they hatch an audacious scheme to achieve their dream of a record deal, by posing as Californian hip hop artists – Silibil N’ Brains. As fame beckons and the lies pile up, their deception threatens to spin out of control. With a terrific soundtrack featuring original music by Silibil N’ Brains, California Schemin’ is a funny, canny and poignant take on image, friendship and the double-edged sword of ambition.
