The Innocent (15)
Troubled thirtysomething Abel, a museum educator and widower is at his wits’ end when he learns his mother Sylvie is about to marry Michel, a convict she met while teaching drama at the local prison. Terrified by this news, he decides to stalk his new stepfather, bringing along his friend Clémence (Portrait of a Lady on Fire’s Noémie Merlant) for the ride. Fun, fizzing with cracking chemistry, Louis Garrel’s genre melting film is part family farce, part heist thriller but above all a unique, heart-warming romantic caper. “Few caper comedies have this much heart, and few romantic dramas offer such an appealingly nutty plot”. Wall Street Journal.
