Seed Share and Children’s HANDS ON Activity

The Foxlowe Seed Share is back again. So-called because we don’t insist on direct swaps.  If you’d like some seeds but have none of your own to swap, you’ll be welcome to take some in exchange for a donation.

We focus on vegetable seeds and some flowers, particularly those that encourage pollinating insects. But anything that’s best to exchange at this time of year is welcome, including seed potatoes and onion sets.  There will be a Plant Share (tba.) in May for seedlings or larger plants, although of course our Plants-to-Go stand on the patio is current throughout the year.

We also welcome self-saved heritage seeds and will have some of our own, including Carlin and Latvian Christmas Grey pea seeds.

Now we know how important soils are for soaking up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, green manure seeds that help to protect them in a variety of ways have become increasingly popular, especially as many also attract insects. This year we are co-hosting the seed shares with Moorlands Climate Action, who have been selling a range of green manure seeds on their quarterly market stall in Leek.

An exciting new development is a HANDS ON activity for children, organised by the Leek Allotment Holders and Gardeners Association, which will include seed-sowing in containers to take away and maybe also a close-up peek at the Foxlowe wormery.

Bring your seeds in a packet or bag with some cultivation information, ideally the original one.

No seeds to swap? Make a donation instead.

Seed potatoes, onion sets, etc. also welcome.

Some heritage seeds provided.

And of course the all-important green manure seeds.
