Pain and Glory (15)
Pedro Almodóvar returns with a soulful semi-autobiographical story about an ageing film director reflecting on his personal and professional past. Antonio Banderas stars as Salvador Mallo, a film director with a fading career and growing list of aches, pains and ailments. Impelled by a planned retrospective, he reminisces about his childhood with his mother (Penelope Cruz), his first love affair in 80s Madrid, and his discovery of cinema and career success. But a reunion with a former leading man has unexpected consequences, in a joyous, confessional reflection on desire, addiction and cinema itself.
