GAZA (15)
This acclaimed and award-winning documentary released in 2019 has been shown all over the world. Filmed over a period of five years, the directors, Keane and McConnell, knew that Gaza was a unique and vibrant land, rich in culture and history. It is home to a people who are oppressed and dehumanised but who are also resilient and strong, and who want nothing more than to lead normal lives in freedom and peace.
In the film, we meet Palestinians from all walks of life who individually have their stories to tell but who together create a portrait of Gaza like no other. “The film has real value as a compassionate human document, in showing ordinary people who courageously have to keep going somehow, in the grimmest of conditions” (Peter Bradshaw). They do so with a dignity, spirit and steadfastness that should be remembered in these present darker days.
