Fathers of Folk Rock Heading for Leek as Part of Autumn Tour
and they’re back…
Yes, having missed the 2023 Leek Arts Festival in May this year traditional favourites Fairport Convention will be on stage at The Foxlowe Arts centre on October 12.
This Leek Arts Festival Extra event is part of the band’s Four Piece Autumn Tour. Festival chairman Phil Edmeades said: ‘Fairport have been part of Leek Arts Festival for more than three decades and many people were disappointed that the band was missing from this year’s line-up because of other commitments. So we were delighted when they asked if they could include Leek on their Autumn Tour. It’s going to be a great night.’
Fairport Convention have been entertaining music lovers for over half a century, with 2023 being their 56th anniversary! During that time the band that launched British folk-rock has seen many changes, but one thing has remained the same – Fairport’s passion for performance.
This year’s Autumn Tour will present a mix of long-established Fairport favourites and some surprises from albums old and new.
Fairport Convention have won a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and Radio 2 listeners voted their ground-breaking album Liege & Lief ‘The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’. Their story has been celebrated with television documentaries on BBC Four and Sky Arts.
The band features founding member Simon Nicol on guitar and vocals, Dave Pegg on bass guitar and vocals, Ric Sanders on violin, Chris Leslie on bouzouki, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and vocals.
Tickets for the Fairport gig on Thursday, October 12, cost £27.50 and are available from The Foxlowe or online. Follow the Green Tickets link.
