Debbie Bond

Singer, guitar player and songwriter Debbie Bond has been paying her dues in the Alabama backwoods for over 30 years. Influenced by the famed sounds of Muscle Shoals, and juke joint blues, her sound is contemporary and original. Her impressive musical story includes years of performing with older traditional Alabama blues musicians, including Johnny Shines, Sam Lay, Eddie Kirkland, Willie King Little Jimmy Reed and more. Her immersion in Alabama blues has deeply flavored her guitar playing, soulful voice and original song writing – yet her sound is contemporary and original, incorporating soul, blues, and jazz influences. Her collaboration with her British born keyboard/harmonica player husband “Radiator” Rick has added a swampy New Orleans edge to sound to her sound. Debbie is a blues activist and the founder of the award winning Alabama Blues Project dedicated to promoting and preserving the states blues heritage.

The blues came calling last night in the shape of Alabama superstar Debbie Bond. Flavours of Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin filled the room as Debbie blazed through two stunning sets with a sound all her own. “Radiator” Rick Asherson on keys, harmonica and vocals accompanied Debbie throughout, with a smattering of cherished covers dotted between Debbie’s sizzling originals. Sam Kelly on drums with his unique, winning style made up the trio for the evening. This was a night to remember with Debbie’s brilliant vocal and lead guitar breaks, Rick’s superb harp solos and Sam’s drumming prowess all showcased to perfection. Blues In Britain

Debbie Bond’s love of soul music was evident…vocals and guitar…straight from the Steve Cropper school: together its winning combination. Blues In Britain

Debbie is a pro, pure and simple. Debbie is of course 100% Alabama having grown up in a stew of blues and breathing a totally blue atmosphere. Her work on the telecaster reflects that. This is blues for blues lovers. Well-chosen or well written original blues is the order of the day and it’s a joy to see and hear. She is authentic and serious player. Keeping it real and delicious…Debbie sounds like Debbie…she has a unique rasp that has the effect of splitting her voice into a hundred tonal fragments that is as close to unique as I have ever heard.
